Joseph Stalin (born Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili) was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1922–53), Politburo member (1924–27, 1930–53), Premier of the Soviet Union (1934–53), and one of the most influential and controversial leaders in human history.
